The Cannon Falls School of Dance recently completed the installation of studio mirrors to their space at the Cannon Community Center. A Minnesota Energy Resources grant of $300 funded the project. This charitable contribution is a part of their arts and culture efforts promoting areas of theater, dance, music, drama and museums. The grant selection was based upon the organization’s benefit to the community and betterment in the lives of its neighbors.
The school was able to secure donated mirrors from the Lake Area Dance Center. The grant went towards building sturdy frames and transportation of the mirrors from White Bear Lake.
The school also received a private donation that helped with needed wall repair.
During the remodeling and additional repairs to the community center, the Cannon Falls School of Dance held classes in an old school room of the CCC building.
The school reopened its studio on March 18th at Door “D”, on the east side of the CCC, with these improvements.
The Cannon Falls School of Dance Performance Troupe performs at area care centers and special events throughout the year. They will be entertaining Cannon Kids in early April. The entire school’s recital is May 20th at the Cannon Falls High School.
The non-profit school formed in 2015 by local residents Sara Dewanz, Jennifer Becker and Ryan Karstens. Dewanz serves as the school’s board president. The school specializes in ballet instruction and also offers classes in creative movement, tap, jazz, world culture and the occasional adult ballroom class. Ashley Groth is the school’s creative director and instructor.
